News reports are circulating about an Idaho dairy farm that is being sued by former Mexican employees for human trafficking. The former employees, who were trained in Mexico as animal scientists, allege that the dairy attracted them to work in their field of specialty then forced them to work as general laborers. I can’t comment on the facts in this case but these allegations raise an important point about clear communications. Employers need to use job descriptions, be sure that employees understand what they mean, and keep them up to date. This is certainly a best practice and the only ethical thing to do, but it is also a way to minimize the potential for lawsuits such as this one.
This prompted me to add a helpful document on job descriptions to the resource library on agworforcedevelopment.com, please check it out. Also, please like and share my page. Thanks.
